2004 is some kind of madness for Charlotte Hatherley, Ash guitarist, indie-rock
icon and current queen-of-the-downloads!
Not only touring the current Ash album Meltdown non-stop through
Europe, Australia and Japan, she's also releasing her latest solo single.
Available on 09 August 2004, in advance of her debut solo long-player
Grey Will Fade, it's appropriately titled Summer.
Summertime is encapsulated perfectly within the mood of this record with its
up-tempo bursts of frenetic power-pop, coupled with the driving production
of American legend Eric Drew Feldman (Captain Beefheart, Frank Black) and
the seasonally inspired lyrics. The single will be available on both CD and
7" vinyl formats, both backed with two new and otherwise unavailable
B-sides, Commodore and S.M.U.T.
is the perfect introduction to what Charlotte's debut solo album Grey
Will Fade is all about - bright and breezy with a deliciously catchy
chorus it showcases her unique gift for a killer tune. Opening track (and
previous download only single) Kim Wilde is almost as good, heralding
the arrival of this awesome debut with gusto - the track drew over 8,400
downloads since its release on her website earlier this year. Other
stand-out tracks on the album are the wonderfully bitchy Bastardo,
the darkly Pixie-esque Stop, the introspectively atmospheric Where
I'm Calling From, Why You Wanna? with its soaring harmonies, plus
title track and album closer Grey Will Fade. There are of course
others, Charlotte's genius songwriting capabilities and seemingly faultless
delivery ensure that the album is jammed to the rafters with perfect moments
from start to finish.
