Rupee, one of the groundbreaking artists involved in the exhilarating musical movement known as soca (soul + calypso) released his hotly anticipated single Tempted To Touch in the UK on 11 October 2004. The single is the first track to be lifted from his debut Atlantic Records album 1 On 1, which follows a week later on 18 October.

Rhythmically complex yet instantly catchy with a non-stop blending of flavours,
Tempted To Touch is currently enjoying massive radio support from the likes of Choice FM's Martin Jay and Radio 1's Chris Goldfinger. In addition to this, it is C-listed at Kiss FM and has been added to the Galaxy Network and Radio 1Xtra. The video, which was directed by well-known and respected director and film producer Hype Williams, is already on the play-list at MTV Base. The single is available on CD and 12" vinyl formats, track-listings as follows:

Rupee was born Rupert Clarke and is the mixed race son of a Barbadian father and a German mother. By the age of nine, he had lived in three completely different cultures - German, English, and Barbadian and is now
poised to capture the global mainstream audience with his album 1 On 1. "Caribbean music as a whole has had a marvellous resurgence in the last two years." He notes. "The likes of Sean Paul, Kevin Lyttle, Shaggy and Elephant Man have opened doors for soca to walk though. It's a beautiful thing."

He celebrates his multi-national heritage with forward-looking and original music, crediting Caribbean based producers, Chris Allman (Slam City Studios), Peter Coppin (Monsta Piece Studios) and Darren Grant (Underground Studios), as well as New York based hip-hop fusion hit-maker Salaam Remi (Fugees, Nas, Ms.Dynamite) for their important contribution to his musical growth and the progressive direction of the album.
"I wanted to accomplish a diversity in this album, and expose different sides of soca music," He says. "I didn't want to tread a fixed line. I think it's possible to bring various elements of music to the soca art form."

Rupee's first success came as a teenager, when he won a popular Barbados talent competition. His performance stole the show and the public's response to
Rupee was tremendous. In 1997 he was invited to join the top Barbadian band, Coalishun. With no formal musical education, but an adventurous and well-tuned ear for hooks and vocal arrangements, Rupee became a natural innovator. As a result, he stoked the progress of soca music - especially in expanding its reach to the young - by fusing it with hip-hop and dancehall.

Initially acclaimed in the competitive and fertile culture of the yearly Caribbean carnivals,
Rupee has gone on to win over masses of jubilant fans through his high-energy performances at festivals and concerts throughout North America and Europe. Supported by his vibrant Caribbean-based band, he is a charismatic and inspiring live performer who could do for soca music what his Atlantic Records, label mate Sean Paul has done for dancehall. Watch this space!

Tempted To Touch was released in the UK through Atlantic Records on 11 October 2004. Rupee's new album 1 On 1 follows on 18 October.
